What is AVID?
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), is a program for students of middle and high school age that is designed to prepare students for college. This program focuses on students whom are in the “Academic Middle” for college eligibility. AVID has a proven track record in closing the achievement gap. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
Que es AVID?
Avance Vía Determinación Individual (AVID), es un programa para estudiantes de edad media y secundaria que está diseñado para preparar a los estudiantes para la universidad. Este programa se enfoca en los estudiantes que están en el "Medio Académico" para la elegibilidad para la universidad. AVID tiene un historial probado en el cierre de la brecha de logros. El Sistema de Preparación Universitaria AVID (ACRS) acelera el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, utiliza métodos basados en la investigación de instrucción efectiva, proporciona aprendizaje profesional significativo y motivador y actúa como un catalizador para la reforma sistémica y el cambio.

How is AVID Different from other School Programs?
WICOR- Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading are embedded in all Content Classes.
TUTORIALS- AVID offers tutorials that allow students to present their Point of Confusion to their Peers in a Session. Their Peers ask questions to assist the student to get their answer.
PHILOSOPHICAL CHAIRS- A strategy that allows the student to debate a strong issue. Students choose whether to agree or disagree with the issue and take turns debating the pros and cons in a whole class setting. Students may choose to change their position if they are “Persuaded” by the other team.
FOCUSED NOTE TAKING- A systematic method of note taking. Students learn how to use their Focused Notes & Graphic Organizers to “study” and “review” important information that they learned in class. Students learn how to implement “higher-order-thinking questions” to retain information.
SOCRATIC SEMINARS-A strategy in which students seek deeper understanding of complex ideas through questioning and dialogue. Students develop higher order thinking questions that allow them to think critically, analyze multiple meanings in a text and express ideas with clarity and confidence.
¿En qué se diferencia AVID de otros programas escolares?
WICOR-Escritura, Investigación, Colaboración, Organización y Lectura están integrados en todas las clases de contenido.
TUTORIALES: AVID ofrece tutoriales que permiten a los estudiantes presentar su Punto de confusión a sus compañeros en una sesión. Sus compañeros hacen preguntas para ayudar al alumno a obtener su respuesta.
SILLAS FILOSÓFICA-: una estrategia que permite al alumno debatir un tema fuerte. Los estudiantes eligen si están de acuerdo o en desacuerdo con el problema y se turnan para debatir los pros y los contras en un entorno de clase completa. Los estudiantes pueden elegir cambiar su posición si son "persuadidos" por el otro equipo.
TOMA DE NOTAS ENFOCADAS- un método sistemático para tomar notas. Los estudiantes aprenden a usar sus Notas Enfocadas y
organizadores gráficos para "estudiar" y "revisar" información importante que aprendieron en clase. Los estudiantes aprenden cómo implementar "preguntas de pensamiento de orden superior" para retener información.
SEMINARIOS SOCÁTICOS- una estrategia en la cual los estudiantes buscan una comprensión más profunda de las ideas complejas a través del cuestionamiento y el diálogo. Los estudiantes desarrollan preguntas de pensamiento de orden superior que les permiten pensar críticamente, analizar significados múltiples en un texto y expresar ideas con claridad y confianza.
