Welcome to OUR AVID Academy!
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School year! My name is Maria Elizondo, and I am the AVID Coordinator for the AVID Academy this year. I have been with Los Angeles Unified School District for over 25 years. This will be my 22nd year teaching K-8th grade. I love working with middle school students! I understand that every child learns differently and at their own pace. I will make every effort to support your son/daughter throughout their middle school journey.
AVID is a program dedicated to helping students succeed in academic areas. It specializes in giving ALL of our students the opportunity to learn skills that will get them college and career ready for our 21st century. Our program will focus on rigor through WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) strategies to prepare our students to excel in all of their classes. All of our AVID Academy teachers receive continuous training that is specific to their content areas. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
